Be Strong

Joshua 1-9 Message
After the death of Moses the servant of God, God spoke to Joshua, Moses' assistant:
"Moses my servant is dead. Get going. Cross this Jordan River, you and all the people. Cross to the country I'm giving to the People of Israel. I'm giving you every square inch of the land you set your foot on—just as I promised Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon east to the Great River, the Euphrates River—all the Hittite country—and then west to the Great Sea. It's all yours. All your life, no one will be able to hold out against you. In the same way I was with Moses, I'll be with you. I won't give up on you; I won't leave you. Strength! Courage! You are going to lead this people to inherit the land that I promised to give their ancestors. Give it everything you have, heart and soul. Make sure you carry out The Revelation that Moses commanded you, every bit of it. Don't get off track, either left or right, so as to make sure you get to where you're going. And don't for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you'll get where you're going; then you'll succeed. Haven't I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take."

Now I know that I am not about to take over land and the situation that the Israelites were facing was different than what is on my plate. Or is it? God was calling them to step up and do what he had called them to do and to not focus on themselves but focus on Him. He has made them a promise and God always fulfill what he promises His children. Now it was there turn to take action. Moses there leader was dead and now they had to move on without Him. There true rock was with them and still speaking into there lives through Joshua. In the last verse he says he will be with them every step they take. In the NIV it says the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Wel all need God's strength for different situations what are you facing that you need to step up be strong and courageous? I have to admit that on my own power my strength would only last a short while, but when I read these verse's I know that God promises to be with me every step of the way. When we let go and give the situation to Him the situation that seems impossible to us God uses it to grow us closer to Him.
So is the situation the Israelites faced more similar than what we think?

His Will


Yes Lord Yes Lord - Above all your will be done
Ps:40:8 I desire to do your will, O my God your law is within my heart
Ps 143:10 Teach me to do your will for you are my God may your good spirit lead me on level ground.
I feel that this verse explains my heart right now. Teach me. I have a tendency to do my own will and get busy in my own stuff and I get numb to the call that God has for me. The call of wife, mom, sister, friend are so much a part of my life but most important the call of my life is servant and daughter to my heavenly Father. As I type that it sounds good but most of the time the other stuff gets put first. I pray as the song says that we would all take time and pray that God would open our eyes to the work of His hand.

Lord help me to see you and the work you are doing in my life and the lives around me. Thank you in advance for opening my eyes and teaching me to do you will. I love you Lord

What I can put my Trust in

Do we know why we believe what we believe? As Christians we all have our stories and can give testimony of where God has changed our lives. No one can argue that and this is a great way to show God's hand at work. What if some one asked you how do you really know that Jesus is the only way? Are we prepared to answer that question. I am going to look up a talk about Scripture that helps me know that what I believe is truth. In the end it is faith. Faith in what we can not see. We don't see God in person or in spirit but I think we see Him working all the time. So in a way we do see Him.
As I woke up this morning and thought about this question these were the first verses on my heart.
Jesus speaking- Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes form the mouth of God -
Matthew 4:4 and Luke 4:4
this is also found in Deut 8:3
I like the insight from the message -Matthew 4:4
4Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God's mouth."
Steady Streams that is a great word picture. His word needs to run continues in our hearts and mind.
Where do we hear or find the words of God? For me it is His written word. I think that God speaks in many different ways but for me I can clearly hear him best in His word. It's when I am quiet reading and completely focused on Him that I hear his heart, guidance and wisdom.
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

2 Timothy 3:15-17 (The Message)
14-17But don't let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother's milk! There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
I like to read scripture in different translations and sometimes one word can help me understand the text better.
AMEN - There is nothing like the written Word of God why?? Because it is completely from Him.
I have heard that it is His love letter to his children. Providing hope peace and understanding to our questions or situations we are facing.
For me I know that I know that I know Jesus is the real deal and that he is for his children. I know because I have seen him in my life and in many others. Details that he puts together are beyond what I can come up with. At the end of the day if someone is questioning Jesus and if he is the only way it come down to faith. I have to step out in faith and truth that what is in the Bible is the truth. I know that this path seems narrow and probably narrow minded. Some things just are
* the grass is green or at my house brown
* cows mooo
* Michigan is cold in the winter
* apples have seeds in the middle
People dont question why the grass is green. It just is.
Matthew 7:13 tells us this path is narrow -
Enter through the narrow gate. For the wide gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it.
Jesus says it is narrow and it's easier and more politically correct and doesn't offend to enter the wide gate.
Message Matthew 7:13-14
13-14"Don't look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don't fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.
As I read this I know that I have done nothing to deserve walking on the narrow path and yet when I called and asked Jesus into my heart he was there to take me from a life of destruction and my own will to His. He knows my heart and what is best for me. I thank and praise God that he loves me enough to let me walk with him on his path and not my own.

His Love


Matthew 18:2- Jesus says : I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
When I think of my girls and what they need from me it is getting less and less and yet I am still number 1 in their world. I get them drinks, pick out and buy there clothes, put them to bed, given them baths, love on them with hugs and kisses and also provide discipline. I have many family members that take great care of them when Shawn and I need to be gone and yet no one knows them like us. I am with them almost every day. When they were little and were learning to talk I knew what they were saying before anyone else could understand them. Why?? Simple I spent the most time with them. I can look at my oldest and know if she has to go potty or throw up. A little sick and crazy I know but it is the truth. The only way to know some one so intimacy is to spend time with them and invest in there lives. It's easy to do this with our kids but what about our husbands, friends,family, and yes even our savior.
When I think about all the things that I know about my children there are still some things that are left for only God to know. He knows the number of hairs on there head and what there passions will be when they grow up. He also knows us that deeply. He is already in love with us. We are his children. We don't have to do anything for him to love us. Just like our kids we love them just because they are ours. Their little annoying habits and all. God loves us just because we are His!!

When we take time with your Savior our love for Him will grow. Your love for the things he loves will grow too. People! The more time we spend with him the more we see the needs of others and how he wants us to be a blessing to them. Then when we take that opportunity to be a blessing we experience a joy and love from our Father that is better than any gift on earth!!
Romans 5:5
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Living and Active

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
His word is living and I know this when I open my Bible and what I am reading applies to my life right now. Going about my day today I have been singing the song Mighty to Save. The words that keep coming to mind are He can move the mountain's my God is might to save he is mighty to save. Now be thankful that you can't hear me singing them, but I think you get the point. As I opened my Bible hoping to have a few minutes of quiet time I thought what do I look up today?? Sometimes I make things harder than what they really are and waste so much time trying to figure out what I am going to read that there is no time left. So I went to the back of the concordance and looked under the first letter A and the first word Abandon. The verse stuck out for me was 1 Timothy 4:1 This verse did seem a little interesting and then I kept reading.
1 Timothy 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
This caught my attention because earlier this week I attended a Weight Loss Gods way meeting at a friends. She has recently given her life to Christ and is very excited about what he is doing in her life. She has really needed His guidance and wisdom and he has provided.
Day after day I am reminded that our God is living and he cares about His children. He puts people together for a reason. He provides this verse at the perfect time. With this weight loss program I am excited to learn how to give that part of my life to Him. To trust that he will help me stop when I want to eat all the cookie dough. Yet I am also reminded that the spiritual has value for all things when the physical only has some value. Focusing only on the physical is where we get into trouble. If we are focusing up and not at what the world wants than he will direct our path.
Thanks you Lord that your word is living and that I can come to you about anything and you have the answer.

My Grumpy Attitude

Wow what a busy day today. Wednesdays are one of my favorite days because I have a ladies Bible study at my house. The ladies come over some with kids and some with out and we talk, share prayer requests, and go through the study for that week. I am always so encouraged and I look forward to my time with these ladies. Toady's topic was on our attitude and that lead to great discussion.
The busyness started after the ladies left and my positive attitude left with them.
Today was different in the fact that my hubby was working from home and that happens almost never. I was excited that he would be home and yet not excited that he was in my space. My youngest is normally very easy going and she was very clingy and whiny today to the point of nails on a chalk board. The day just seemed to be spinning out of control.
With the discussion on attitude that morning I found myself being short with the kids and ready for bed time before it was dinner time. I was in the middle of a bad mood and not knowing how to change it. Funny how God puts the lessons we need on the exact day its needed.
I am so glad that my Father in heaven is exactly that, a Father. He is always wanting what is best for us and giving us what we need to grow. As I put the girls to bed and apologized for my grumpy attitude I was thinking I am thankful:

* His mercy's are new every morning - He gives us a new start every day

* He is my rock - when I am being moody he is the same yesterday today and always

* He loves me enough to continue to shape and mold me

* I can come to him in the middle of a crazy day and give concerns to Him

So much to be thankful for in the midst of the busyness of life. The busyness today was a good busy and yet it is tiring. When we are busy serving others and our family we have to remember we need to be fed too. As Mom's we need more than just animal crackers and coffee we need the living word!!

A Ready Heart

Addison Road - What do I know of Holy?

Jer29:12-13 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
While listening to last Sundays message this song was on my heart most of the time. It is not about having it all figured out or knowing the right things to say or pray it's all about the heart.
I love the promises given in this verse
1. We will call upon our Lord - Not if but when
2. When we seek Him we will find Him and
all we need is a ready heart. All we need is to
want more of Him than this world. Sounds easy
and yet it is a daily dieing of our own desires.
The main verses that were covered in the message were Matthew 13: 10-15
Matthew 13:10-17 (NIV)
10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"
11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven

has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more,
and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has
will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:
"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
" 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
Message
10The disciples came up and asked, "Why do you tell stories?"
11-15He replied, "You've been given insight into God's kingdom. You know how it works. Not everybody has this gift, this insight; it hasn't been given to them. Whenever someone has a ready heart for this, the insights and understandings flow freely. But if there is no readiness, any trace of receptivity soon disappears. That's why I tell stories: to create readiness, to nudge the people toward receptive insight. In their present state they can stare till doomsday and not see it, listen till they're blue in the face and not get it.
* In the Message it talks about understanding the stories is a gift and the gift is given to a ready heart. I find that the more I press into God and His word the more I love it. Our creator giving us insight why would we not take this one on one time with Him.
Jason(Pastor) mentioned that many people say they don't know where to start in reading the Bible or it's confusing. I can say from experience that most people don't know where to start but we have to start somewhere.
What gets you excited, What do you already do on a daily basis? This might sound a little silly but it's true. For me it's music. I listen to music most of the time so that's what helps me get me into His word.
My husband is in the car all day so he could listen to a sermon on Cd and then do more study at home.
A friend S.G. is a big reader so he might read a book and then use that to do more research about that scripture or topic.
We all have different passions and interests and I think that we make it to complicated sometimes. What our Father wants is our hearts and he takes care of the rest. When I come to Him with an open heart and ready to learn and grow he opens my eyes.

Matthew13:12 - Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance.
When Jason covered this part of the scripture he mentioned that the more is more of God. That God is looking for those who are will to chase and follow him. People that are less interested in what he will do for them and more interested in him as a savior.
When I looked up the definition for chase it said:
an earnest or frenzied seeking after something desired
When we seek after God it will take effort and yet he gives us more of him when we have a willing heart.
* More love
* More wisdom
* More patience
* More understanding

My Portion

My Mom gave me a CD a few weeks ago and I have really come to love one particular song. She gave me the CD and we both had a favorite song at the time.
* In the Sanctuary
You have to check it out on You tube - If you are having a blaaa day this song will get you dancing and put a smile on your face.
I am still loving that song but I have another song that has captured my heart.
* Made me Glad
The whole song is awesome but the one word that keeps sticking out to me in My Portion.

When a word keeps catching my attention I try to take time and look to see if I can find scripture on it. I have also seen in other studies that they look up the word in the dictionary and so I decided to be a little copy cat.

This is what the Websters Dictionary says for the word portion:

*individuals part or share

*a share received by a gift or inheritance
Funny how words come up at the same time in different songs or studies. Well the word portion is that word for the last few months. I know he is my portion but really I am his too. WOW he looks at me as a gift. I know it's in His word but sometimes it doesn't sink in.

Renewed Strength

Isaiah 40:28-31NIV
28 Do you not know?Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint
.
Is there anything or anyone that wears you out.
Something that makes you weary.
I find that having to clean the house one more time
can make me weary and frustrated.
After cleaning for hours on Sat I woke up
this morning to more laundry, crumbs and
books all over the floor.
Little things I know and in the scheme of life
they are really little.
I am just wondering if you are like me and sometimes
wish the house could just stay clean for a few days or even hours.
As I read these verses I was reminded that with my own strength
I do tire easy and I focus on the little details. With the strength of the Lord
he changes my heart and helps me focus on what is important.
When you have little kids playing hair salon, eating
and helping make cookies, and wanting to have a tea party
it's inevitable to have more crumbs and more mess.
God giving us His strength and wisdom is a gift. There is
no way that I can soar with out his help.
There is no way that I can run and not grow weary without focusing on Him
and his Word. I hope on this cold and rainy fall day we can focus on His strength
and not our own.

Who am I following?

Exodus 13:20-22
They moved on from Succoth and then camped at Etham at the edge of the wilderness. God went ahead of them in a Pillar of Cloud during the day to guide them on the way, and at night in a Pillar of Fire to give them light; thus they could travel both day and night. The Pillar of Cloud by day and the Pillar of Fire by night never left the people.
In these verses God lead in a very visible sense. They saw the cloud by day and fire by night, and it was always in front of them. The way we are lead now is different and yet God is still our guide. He does not lead us by a cloud or fire but have you experienced a time were God was very visible to you?? Maybe a sunset that really captured you or maybe an awesome time of worship where you thought about only Him.

Isaish 45:2 - I will go before you and level the mountain's, I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron.
Jason said that the people of God did not go before Him and when God moved they moved. As I read this again and again and thought about how many times I try to do my own thing, and the words in this verse become real. When I make my own path and go before God I am climbing a mountain, breaking through gates or cutting through iron. All challenging tasks. Yet when I follow God he levels the mountains breaks the gates and cuts the iron. What a great visual that God's word provides.
Not saying that when we follow him life is always easy but at least we are not going at life on our own agenda.
Is there anything in your life that you are doing that you have jumped ahead and not waited for God?

Jason asked us to pray and ask the Lord to help me(you) listen to the spirit. When I read this over I thought about when I tell the girls to use there listening ears. I usually pray this for Olivia now in first grade and yet is it not something I pray for myself. I know that in school you can get distracted and talking and forget to listen to instruction. So true in our own life too. We get so caught up in excitement or get distracted and forget to listen to the Holy Spirit.
John 14:26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

What is our #1 Priority

Luke 9:23
If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

God's timing is always perfect and Sunday's message about taking time daily with our Lord was again perfect timing. Coming off summer where people are trying to fit vacations and play time in to there already busy schedule this was a great reminder.
Picking up our cross is not supposed to be a part of our schedules but a part of our being.
Being so thirsty and hungry for God's word and time with Him that we wouldn't think of putting anything before Him. This is what I want! But to be honest when I was sitting listening to the message I thought how do I get there. I have been there before and feel I have been very lax in my time and devotion lately and yet I don't want to be.
I know that when I get lax about my time spent with my Lord it is not Him who has changed, but it is me. I have shifted my focus to me me me instead of Him Him Him.
I find it interesting that when time with Him is top priority that to do list gets done and then some. When he is first he will guide my path and give me instruction on what is important. Maybe vacuuming the house 3 times a week is not a real priority and the Holy Spirit will speak that truth into my life when I am spending time with Him. This is just my heart and I don't have any questions or answers, but I know that when my first priority is HIM then the rest has always worked out. He gives me the time, energy and knowledge to get it done.
As I was emptying the dishwasher a song came on the radio and it was a great reminder of His love and how he is Jealous for me.- How he Loves David Cowder Band
Hebrews 13:15 - Through Jesus therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise- the fruit of lips that confess his name

Encouragement - To play in the Rain

Today was a great day to play in the rain and after a few minutes of the girls asking we headed outside. The girls had a blast playing in the puddles, with there umbrella and doing sidewalk chalk. There smiles and excitement were the best and even more fun than playing outside on a sunny day.
I have thought about taking the girls out in the rain may times but usually try to get them going on something inside. After seeing pictures on facebook of another Mom playing in the rain with her kids I was encouraged to do it myself. This Mom has no clue that she put the thought in my mind or encouraged me to do so, but she did.
I love that as Mom's we can encourage each other in the simple and big things.
Simple things like playing in the rain can be fun memories for our kids and ourselves. Thanks to a friend on facebook we had a great time playing in the rain!

Picking up my Cross Today

Luke 9:23 If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
With my to do list in hand I notice they are all things I need to get done.
* laundry
* clean up the kitchen
* put laundry away
But what would God have on my to do list today. If I focused on this verse today and picked up my cross how might my day look different?
As I look at the list and know that all of these and more need to be done today, how would I find the time to do anything else. Not that I cant do laundry for the kingdom but I think you know what I mean. When I looked at the notes in my Bible it compared picking up our cross to putting away selfish desires.
Lord, As I sit here with hours of house work to do
I think how can I have or make time for anything else.
I pray that you would open my eyes and
heart to you plans for my day. I give you my day and ask you to
help me use my time effectively and for your glory.
I love you Lord and love that you give
me a chance daily to pick up my cross.
Help me today carry my cross and
put down my own selfish desires.

When he Knocks do I open the door?

Rev 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
I was woke up this morning around 6:30 by my oldest and I could tell she was not willing to go back to bed. She was ready for the day and very persistent about watching a Franklin. I was not ready to start my day, so I gave in and thought I will just go back to bed or sleep on the couch while she watches this show. Getting the show started I felt a nudge to spend some time in the Word. Warm comfy bed vs. hard chair in the kitchen. Well I knew what my flesh wanted but I knew that I needed this time in the Word.
The word lukewarm came to mind the other day as I was meeting with a friend and my words were not matching my faith. I was feeling lukewarm and knew there was a passage on that. As I looked up the passage and knowing that Jesus is not for lukewarm I thought I should dig a little deeper.
Reading in Revelations 3 I noticed the reason for them being lukewarm was because they are relying on their own resources. Focusing on there earthly position,and thinking they are set. Following most of the rules and blending into the world is not God's desire for our lives. We are called to be on fire for Him and look different and that is not the easiest road to take.
Rev 3:15-17 in the message gives me a better picture
15-17"I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You're not cold, you're not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You're stale. You're stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, 'I'm rich, I've got it made, I need nothing from anyone,' oblivious that in fact you're a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless
Stale and stagnant are not words that I want describing mine or my family's life. But how do I stay on fire for Jesus. How do I stay HOT?
Maybe this is not an issue for you and Praise God if it isn't.
I can think of three keys in my own life that help me stay on fire.
* Being connected with other believers
Hebrews 10:23-25NIV
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

* Communication with God and asking for his help if I feel like I am starting to slip
1 Peter 5:6-8 NIV
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
* Getting my daily bread
Matthew 4:4 NIV
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'
It is so key to stay connected to God and other believers so that we don't fall into temptation. These are the three that I thought of and I sure there are more. When I am pressing hard into community with other and seeking God's desires over mine I will not be described as lukewarm. Praise God

Where is he asking you to Be Still?

Psalm 46:10"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.


Exodus 14:14The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.
What a great reminder that our Lord will fight for us. I have seen this in our lives this week and last. We were working on refinancing our house and for whatever reason we missed out on the lower rate before it jumped. So we did some phone calls and talked to a few friend and decided to look at a different bank. With this other bank we will be able to pay our house off faster and our house payment will be about $150 less. When I first got the news that the other paper work didn't get in on time I was so upset. Then within a few hours we were checking out different options. Looking back I think God's hand was at work and he knew we would not be happy with that first bank.
He is fighting for us and he wants what is best for us.
This was a great reminder to Be still in the Big and Small things.

Sometimes with the daily responsibilities of being wife and mom I get tired and need rest. I have been more tired, and needing more sleep the last few days. Summer can be a fun and busy time and it can also get us off our normal routine. This is what I am finding. I had certain days in the fall and winter that I would have longer quiet time and writing times. With my daughter home from school it has been challenging to findpockets of time. The girls are going to sleep later and after putting them to bed I want to crash. I am only telling you this because I have found in the past if I am dealing with an issue usually another women is too. My feeling tired and quiet time in His Word usually go hand and hand. I get insight, and strength from His Word, so when that time with Him is lacking I get tired easily.
Today my youngest is taking a nap and oldest is golfing with Papa, and yes my house needs to be picked up but I knew I needed to have time in His Word.
When I looked up this verse I first looked at the NIV and then as I read the Message it really spoke to me today. Jesus wants us to come to Him when we are overwhelmed and tired and he will show us true rest. The rest I receive from Him is not laying on my pillow but it giving me a new strength, and new wisdom that will help thought the day. This verse also talks about walking with Him and working with Him and watching how He does it. The only way I can truly walk with Him is if I am in His Word and listening what he has to say.
This verse was such a great reminder of two important things in my life:
*He wants to spend time with me and you
* He is all about relationship not a religion

Fear Not


If I open my eyes to what God is doing in our life's I see Him at work all the time.
My girls went to VBS today and had a blast and they learned Fear not because God is always with us. They have been singing and shouting this throughout the day. To hear my girls sing and shouting praises gives me chills.
As the girls and I had a great day Shawn was at work having a not so good day. He had meetings that did not go so well and was dealing with a boss that can be inappropriate. So when it comes time to put the girls down Shawn asked them what they learned at VBS and they said Fear not God is always with us. We both looked at each other and smiled. What a great lesson from a 3 and 5 year old. They have fears of bugs, thunder, loud noises and yet to them these are valid fears. As there parents we have different fears but as the girls reminded us Fear not. God's word tells us:
Romans 8:14-16 NIV
14because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.[a] And by him we cry, "Abba,[b] Father." 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

I learn so much from my girls and today was no exception.


His Love


Day 1
Take a minute to pray before listening to the song and ask God to open you ears to really hear what He has for you today.
I love this song!!This song was very emotional the first time I heard it. I am a crier and that was my first response as I listened and thought about the day I will sit at His feet. Even writing that brings tears to my eyes. So just know that the most important part of this time with God is exactly that time with Him!
Lets jump into His living word. Heb 11:6
We are not called to casually seek Him how are we called to seek Him ____________
Think about when you really seek after Him. When you make it a priority. When you turn off the T.V., get up early or stay up late. What happens when you earnestly seek Him?

I find that when I put all the stuff down and dig into His Word, get on my knees or listen to a song and really take in what the words are saying He is there.
Lets look at Jer 29:13

Lets back up and read Jer 29: 11-13 When we seek Him he will make those plans know to us. I get very excited about this part. I love that when I put in the effort and really seek Him he is there. Even if I get lax for a few days he does not.

What a great night of Praise and Worship


Well it is 9:45 and I just got back from a Night of Praise and worship with my sisters in Christ. I love Praise and Coffee nights they give me a chance to catch up with friends, drink coffee and most importantly Praise our Heavenly Father. Tonight was all about worship and I was so excited. I love to sing and love to listen to praise and worship songs. Something is different when we get together with our sisters in Christ and let the walls down to praise our God. The first time I really experienced this was at a Beth Moore conference and I now will jump at the chance to have praise time with my sisters. No offense to our men but when women come together and sing it is powerful. We all come with junk and we all come a little tired from the day and yet no of that matters. It's all about him!! One of the songs tonight talked about God moving mountains and I can't get that out of my head. I get wrapped up in my own little world and I sometimes forget how big our God is. When he speaks things happen, things change, or something is created. We all have those mountains in our life and yet he is there when we fully trust him to move it or blow it up.
Please know I am speaking to myself! I have a tendency to walk around the same mountain, so this song was very powerful for me.
Lets take a minute to listen to this song and Praise our Lord.

Mighty to Save-Laura Story

As I mentioned before the part of this song that stuck out to me tonight was he is able to move mountains. What impacted me might be totally different than what was impacting to you.
What part of this song touched you?
When I think about the mountains that he has moved in my life I think the biggest one was our marriage going down hill. He has worked in so many areas of my life but this is the mountain that was truly higher than I ever imagined. Shawn and I have now been married for 9 years on Oct 14th and I love him more all the time. I think back to our wedding day and I know now I didn't have a clue. God did. He knew what would happen in the next few years, and he knew we would both come running to him. We came at different times and in different ways but he was there and he moved those mountains in our lives that were hindering our marriage.
So it is pretty silly when I think about the big mountain that he moved and then I am still waking around this little hill because of my own insecurities.
Our God is mighty to save -He is the author of Salvation- his love is everlasting - he is our only true Savior- he offers forgiveness- and best of all for me, he loves me the way I am!!
I hope you are as blessed from this song as I was, and I hope that if you have a chance to do Praise and Worship with you Sisters you will. It is so worth it.

Knowing Him Better



We are full swing into summer. Camps,riding bikes, playing with friends, working in the yard and this week we are getting ready for a garage sale. As women and Mom's we are usually jugging a full plate,and with kids home for the summer that might be adding more to that plate. My girls have had princess camp this week for a few hours, so I have been using that time to work on the garage sale. Last night I was just needing to veg and could not find anything on TV, so I flipped to Joyce Meyer. To be honest I wanted to watch something that didn't involve thinking, but after a few minutes I was writing down verses. Since I have been busy with the girls and getting the garage sale ready I have not been taking my quiet time like normal. Why when I get busy do I push the most important thing in my life to the side. God deserves a front seat in my(our) life all the time and putting quiet time with him on the back burner should not be an option. When I set the busyness aside and spend time with my Father it is always a blessing. This is the verse that Joyce really focused on and it was a true blessing:

I have read these verses before but never focused on the part about knowing him better. In the busyness of the summer I am going to take this verse and memorize it. When I have a minute here and there I can pray that my Lord Jesus would give me wisdom and revelation to know him better.
I also loved the part about knowing the hope to which you are called to or in the message see exactly what is is he is calling you to do. We all have gifts that are a blessing to others and the great thing is they are all different. I had a friend call me today and she was making meals for people and 6 of them! Now that is her gift. I asked her if she has always loved cooking and cooking for others and she said YES!! Praise God for women like her. Now that is not my gift and if I make you a meal I hope it's edible.
If you know your calling great if you are not so sure that's ok too. We have a Father that is always at work and in his time he will reveal it. Something that helps me is when I look back over the last year to remember what has changed. How am I moving forward and how has God been at work. When I take the time to remember all he has done I see that he is working.
I have heard this line before and I think it is fitting to this verse: See where God is working and join him. He is at work and sometimes we just have to open our eyes.
I hope that in the busyness of life we all take to time to grow in our love for God this summer.
Praise God that we have eternal Hope!

Meeting with Girlfriends

Hebrews 10: 23-25
23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Do you think of a certain friend when you read this verse. One that always has great wisdom and has known the Lord for a while. We all need to be spurred on once in a while.I have been blessed to have a few friends that have been a great encouragement to me as a wife and Mom. As women we all do life differently and yet we can learn so much from each other.
From one friend I learn more about being a great and Godly Mom, and from another I might gain insight and encouragement about putting my husband before my children. God has made women for fellowship and community, that is why we feel a little recharge when we take the time to meet with our girlfriends.
As I met with a new friend today I was really enjoying our time and feeling encouraged. Having some time with her to talk through a few things gave me new perspective and a few things to pray about.
Lets take a minute and lift up that girlfriend that came to mind when you read Heb.

Indescribable





Our God is so worthy of our praise.
This song is a great reminder of how amazing our Creator is and all he has done for us. He is our Creator, he knows the number of hairs on our head, he is indescribable, he is amazing, and he loves his children. It's a bit ridiculous then for me to look at a situation or problem and get overwhelmed or get consumed with fear. I know God is at work and I have seen him work in so many peoples lives and yet sometimes I forget how powerful he is. When I am weak he is strong.
As I looked up weak and strong in the Bible I came across 2Corinthians 12:7-10
This is what is written in the Application part of my Bible:
We don't know what Paul's thorn in the flesh was, because he didn't tell us. Some suggest that it was malaria, epilepsy, or a disease of the eyes. Whatever the case it was a chronic debilitating problem, which at times kept him from working. This thorn was a hindrance to his ministry, and he prayed for its removal; but God refused.
2Cor 12:9 Says My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
So as Paul and you and I see our weakness as something that is hindering us God uses it for his Glory. If we let him, I believe he works through that weakness. If we focus up and not around then all things are possible through Christ. I hope you find time today to listen to this song a few times and think about all he has done for all of us.

Believing, Trusting and Praying

Of all the Bible studies I have done the best part about the study is always learning more about God's word. These are a few verses that I think about on a regular basis and I thought it might be helpful to look at both the NIV and the Message. When I look outside today it makes me so thankful for the seasons. I don't think I would be so thankful for sunshine if I had it everyday of the year. For those of us who live in Michigan through winter we are so thankful for day's like today.
The sky is so blue and the breeze is perfect,and I hope you find a little time today to play and sit in the beauty of the Lord.

Focus your Eyes up

Day 2
This is such a great song and a great reminder to give it all to God.
I hope you take a minute to listen and journal what God is speaking to your heart today.
Are you in the same shoes as Matthew West, and want more than just going through the motions?
What do you feel like when you are lax and just go through the motions?
I think for most of us it’s a day to day decision.
We live in a world that wants our attention and to keep our eyes focused up and not on the world around we need time in God’s word.
Who in your life comes to mind when you look at not going through the motions. Who is completely surrendered to God’s plan.
I know a few people in my life that live completely surrendered to God’s plan but I thought we should look at someone out of the Bible for our example.
Roman 4: 18-21
Against all hope Abraham in hope believed and became the Father of many nations, just as it had been said to him,” So shall your offspring be,” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promised of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
These great verses have a lot of significance in my life right now. I have been drawn to these verses thought the Holy Spirit for the last few months. They have also come up in Bible studies and church sermons. When verses come up again and again in my life I know that it is not by accident but by the work of the Holy Spirit. I also know that there is so much in these verses that I can learn from and look at in my day to day life. Unwavering belief in God is not the norm in our culture. So this gives me a great example of that unwavering belief and how God comes through on his promises.

Luke 1:37-38
She was the Lord servant and willing to do as he asked. I am sure that she had many questions and yet she choose to answer the angle with -nothing is impossible with God. I am not sure that I would have had the same reaction.
How do you react when God is calling you to do something that is out of your comfort zone?

Lets pray- Lord as I look at these verses I see that both Mary and Abraham loved you and were willing to do what you asked them to do. Help me to have that unwavering belief in you.

Day 3

I had a dinner date with a girl friend of mine the other day and again I saw Gods fingerprints all over our time together. Shawn and I had been to a Weekend to Remember just a month ago and we were truly blessed. One of the main focuses was creating oneness. The evil one wants us to go about life by ourselves and God has a much different plan. He is all about relationship with each other and oneness with our spouse. As my girlfriend and I talked I kept thinking about that weekend and what I had learned. She and her husband are in two different worlds right now. She is a Christian and yet right now her hope meter is running low. I have so been there. I know that my God is a big God but in life’s difficult situations it’s hard not to get down and feel a little hopeless.
I left that dinner date a little sad and a little drained. I say that because we just talked about what was going on and she is LIVING it. When you are in the tough stuff it is draining, so don’t think you are alone in that. Also know that when the tough stuff involves your marriage the evil one ds working over time, and loving that you are at odds with each other. The only way to make it through life’s bumps is to keep your eyes focused on Jesus. As much as I want to rush in and help this friend I am not the answer. Jesus is for our marriage and he wants us to turn to him in tough times and it is the only way that I found true peace.
Abraham's body was as good as dead and yet he chose not to look at the facts but he looked up. He took his eyes from the situation and focused them on the promises of God. God is faithful and will stand on what he promises to us and what is in his Word. I see that God likes to use situations that show others his glory not our own. With the age of Abraham and Sarah it is obvious that God would have to perform a miracle. The great news is the word says that Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever so he is still using us to show his glory. (Heb 13:8)
Are you willing to be his vessel?

Consuming Passion

Day 4
Does God really call us to have all consuming passion?
Lets check out the following verses in the Message
Mark 12:29
Jesus said, "The first in importance is, 'Listen, Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.' And here is the second: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' There is no other commandment that ranks with these."
Mark 12:32
The religion scholar said, "A wonderful answer, Teacher! So lucid and accurate—that God is one and there is no other. And loving him with all passion and intelligence and energy, and loving others as well as you love yourself. Why, that's better than all offerings and sacrifices put together!
Luke 10:27
He said, "That you love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and muscle and intelligence—and that you love your neighbor as well as you do yourself."

What are you truly passionate about excluding your church and church family?
* Sports
* exercising
* scrap booking
* gardening
Whatever you are passionate about usually takes up time in your day. Maybe time in the physical sense or time by consuming your thoughts.

What is your passion for Gods kingdom?
* working with the youth
* your small group
* mentoring women
We have so many passions and desires that add to God's kingdom and those talents and passions were given to us by him.
Yet we are told that our first love our first passion is to be for God himself.
If we truly love someone , we know them and we trust them and we have some history with them. How has your love for God grown in the last few years?
If we are loving the Lord with all that we have who do you think in your life will take notice?

I do want that all consuming passion in my life and I also want it to be noticeable , mainly to my children.
How can we show our children in a tangible way that we do love the Lord with all of our heart soul and mind?

but to show our kids our love for the Lord.
Here are a few examples :
* Make a God box - Let the kids decorate a shoe box and every time they are worried about something they write that concern on a card and put it in the box as a reminder that they are casting their cares on God
* Teach your kids the Ten Commandments
* Start a Thanksgiving Journal - Using a blank notebook begin recording prayers of thanks to God on a regular basis. And take time to look back and remember what God has done in your family's life.
For my children to see my consuming passion I can do no greater thing than to be in Gods word and show his love to them. I hope that we all show one person today that God loves them.

Encouragement

As I am coming off a weekend with my girls I have so any thoughts running through my head. I had this weekend alone with them because, Daddy was at a men’s conference. Shawn and I knew he would have a blast, but I had no idea how much fun I would have. Even though my girls are only 5 and 3 they are growing up. I can have little conversation with them and we can just be girls. We did things like eat pizza, hang out with Nana, dance to music, went to a dance recital we just had fun!! As much fun as I had with my girls I was ready for Shawn to be home last night. As I sat on the couch watching a movie and laughing out loud something someone was missing.
While I was watching the movie I thought I should write him a little note and just remind him how much he is loved. In the day to day grind we don’t tell each other enough how much we appreciate each other. This weekend was fun, but on a day to day basis I would never choose to do life without him.
Shawn is on my mind but who is in your life that you really appreciate that you could take a minute this week to write a note to. Who blesses you on a daily or weekly basis that deserves more than a verbal thank you. Maybe it’s another Mom who is helping you in life right now. Or maybe your like me and you love your hubby and know that he is a great Husband and Father and yet writing it down is last on the to do list.
We all need a little encouragement once in awhile. I will definitely be taking time today to write my note of encouragement.

Give To God List

What is on your To Do list for today?
I don’t make up a to do list everyday but on the days I am the most productive I find that I am working hard to cross things off my list.
* fold laundry
*clean up kitchen
* unload and load dishes
* look at and make out bills
The list could go on and on. Many things also happen through the day that are not on the list ,so it is helpful to look back at the list to refocus. You could be unloading the dishwasher and then get called to help set up the train track or help with homework. Then the dryer goes off, and you are off to fold the clothes so they don’t wrinkle. Then the phone rings and it is downstairs. Then you hear someone crying upstairs "-she hit me…"This is why it is helpful to have that to do list because after all that I might be thinking."Now what was I doing."As I have been trying to be more productive I have been making out that to do list almost every day, and yet I am getting frustrated that I am not getting the list done. I keep getting interrupted. Fancy that! Then the light bulb went off. Well, really the Holy Spirit impressed on me, "Are you giving that to do list to me first."So now I go at the to list a little differently.
I call my to do list my GTG list -Give To God

Also as I was writing my list for Friday I thought what would God want on my list for the day?

* Spend quality time with the girls - play a game or paint

I learned another quick lesson as I wrote it down this way. My list is a lot different than God’s, His is all about relationship. In mine I am doing things that need to be done but I am not growing closer to someone by unloading the dishwasher. I think the key for me when I looked at this was balance, and to also give our selves a break sometimes.

A Victory Celebration




This is such a great song. For me I just needed something fun and uplifting today. Easter Sunday was amazing! Our service was awesome and then spending time with family and the great weather was an added bonus. Then comes Monday, and back to the grind. Well I wanted to have a good attitude and so I thought singing a New Hallelujah song would be a great start.
Maybe you knew this verse was in the Bible but for me this was an exciting find.
Let look at Ps 149:1
Sing to the Lord a ______ ____________
Is that not the best!! I was so excited to find this verse. God is so Good!!
I want to share what is written in my Bible as the theme of this verse:

I know for me dancing and music in my house go hand and hand. We might be listening to praise and worship music or head and shoulders knees and toes. Kids love to dance and I have to say so do I. Now I am not one to dance in public but I wish I was a little more child like in that area. When we are singing certain songs at our church the kids are dancing and they could care less if people are watching. It is funny how our kids can sometimes set the example of being Christ like.
Lets look at verse 4 why might we want to dance and give praise to our Father?
He _____________ in us. He crowns the humble with ________________.
Two great reason for reverence and praise.
One of the things that has been pulling at my heart lately is genuine worship. Lets close in prayer and ask the Spirit to open our eyes and heart to how we can drop the walls and just focus on him and not the others around us or the stuff in our lives.

Genuine Worship


Take a minute to listen to this great song and have a minute of Praise and Worship
Genuine worship
Don’t we all need a New Hallelujah at one time or another.
So were you ready to stand up and praise or raising your hands .Genuine worship does not require that we raise our hands but it does call for us to follow the spirits leading. Be open to that as you listen to this song if you feel led to stand and lift your arms or dance do so. Follow the spirits leading and you will be blessed!!

Lets look at Luke 19: 40
Who will cry out if we don’t________________________
I have to be honest and say that some weeks in my life the stones have cried out. In those weeks my time in worship is little and the time I do give is not in completely focus on God. How can we prepare our hearts for genuine worship?

I don’t think there is a magic formula and I think what works for me may be different for what works with you.
I know for me that prayer is a big part of preparing my heart. The reason I starting writing is so that I could share with others what has worked for me as a distracted Wife and Mother. Listening to a song before my quiet time helps me put the distractions behind me and gets me ready for my quiet time. While listening to the song my mind might still be thinking about 10 different things but then after I pray and journal my heart is ready.

To end the day lets look at a few verses that have the same message and yet are the heart of how to truly worship. Write down one or two words that stick
Matt 22:37 - What is our instruction from Jesus?
Verse 38 says this is the _______ and greatest _____________
Deut 6:5
Deut 6:6 Says that these commandments are to be upon our ________

If we are called to Love the Lord with all of our heart soul and strength I think that includes are praise and worship time. Together this week lets give him our all. I know that I can only do this through the work of the Holy Spirit so lets pray:
Lord
I am so excited to be in your word and to be reminded of what you have called me to do. I do love you and yet many times I don’t praise you with all of my heart so or strength. Spirit help me this week and forever give my heavenly Father the praise and love he deserves. I LOVE YOU Lord

Voice of the Savior - Mandisa





Fill my cup
Today is Tuesday about 1:30 and I have to say I’m feeling pretty good, energized and ready to tackle the rest of the day . My girls are napping and I am having a little snack. I have about 1 ½ of quiet and I am trying to decide what to tackle first. Laundry is calling my name, emails to answer, I need to call Shannon, or should I go pick up my room? The list could go on and on. Even as my to do list calls my name I know in my heart what is more important. I need quiet time with my Lord I need him to fill my cup. I am filling good right now, but I know from past experiences that if I go on my emotions I’m in trouble. When 7:00rolls around I will be feeling very empty. To be honest I will be feeling tired and frustrated about 5:00 and that is a few hours from bed time and not to mention tired is not an option at dinner time.
The other option is for me to fill my own cup and sometimes that seem faster and easier. I would fill mine with chocolate and coffee and then maybe an email and then more coffee ….. This will keep me going for a while and maybe even for a day and then I am bound to crash. The sugar buzz and caffeine will wear off and then I am back to the core issue. The world has a way of emptying us and we will try to fill our cup with something , but something isn’t good enough. We need to be filled with our Fathers word.
When I take time to go to the Lord what will he fill my cup with? As I took a few minutes to look this up in his word this is what I found and what he revealed to me:



1st He will fill us with his Love
God is love so when we seek him and asked to be filled he will give us what he is LOVE
Again it will take time but if we are tuned in and take that time with him his love for you and I will be evident.

2nd His mercy and Grace in our time of need - Heb 4:16

3rd He fills us with the Holy Spirit - Gal 5:22 - We get many things from the spirit and I feel that daily I need to remember that the spirit lives in me and that all I have to do is ask. Also the more time I spend in the word the more I see the fruit of the spirit in my own life.
I can be pretty impatient, but when I am in Gods word I am continually reminded that it’s God time not my time.


4th Peace and understanding Phil 4:7 Says That the peace of God which transcends all understand will guard our hearts and your mind minds in Christ Jesus. How do we get this peace. The answer is in verse 6 - but in everything with prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your requests to God. So God will fill us with his peace when we go to him with prayer and thankfulness.


So if we take the time ask God to fill our cup his word says that he provides love, mercy, fruit of the spirit, peace and understanding. If we try to fill our own cup it might me full for a few minute, hours or even a day but at some point we will burn out and when we do there is usually a crash involved. So lets go to our Father and ask him to fill our cup with what is good and right for his Kingdom not what we think is on our daily agenda.


Lord,
I need so much more of you and less of me. I need my cup filled with you. Help me to focus on you and not on my to do list or on the challenges of today. Lord sometimes my quiet time with you seems impossible to fit in and yet I know that I need it please open time in my day to focus completely on you. I love you Lord and thank you
